The Changing Landscape of Relationships: A Bitter Truth About Society

In today’s world, the nature of relationships has undergone a significant transformation. What once were genuine, heartfelt bonds have increasingly turned into calculated transactions. This shift reflects deeper changes in social values, family dynamics, and expectations - bringing both confusion and challenges for individuals and communities alike.

From Relationships to Deals: The New Reality

Traditionally, relationships, especially marriages, were built on trust, understanding, and shared values. Families looked beyond superficial qualities; they valued social standing, cultural compatibility, and character. Now, the scene has drastically changed. Relationships are often reduced to mere deals where physical beauty, job status, wealth, and material possessions dominate decision-making. The emotional and cultural fabric that once held families together seems to be unraveling.

Parents today often feel powerless. The courage to choose life partners for their children based on their own judgment and values is fading. Instead, economic considerations and status symbols like cars, houses, and bank balances dictate choices. For instance, boys without expensive vehicles are often disregarded, despite their other qualities, while girls from wealthy families are favored to secure financial benefits like dowry.

The Pursuit of Convenience and Status

There is a growing preference for smaller families that require less effort and work, reflecting a desire for convenience. Previously, the emphasis was on the daughter being skilled in household duties, but today, many proudly claim their daughters never had to do housework. This marks a shift towards seeing relationships as opportunities for better living standards rather than emotional or social bonds.

The pursuit of an ideal partner often leads to endless searching, resembling a marketplace filled with constantly newer and more attractive “models”. But this chase frequently results in frustration, as people grow older and the reality of impermanence sets in. The superficial allure of youth and beauty fades, no matter how much effort is put into appearances through salons or cosmetics.

Employment and Expectations: A Double-Edged Sword

Another trend gaining ground is the expectation that a boy with a job should marry a girl with a job. While this might seem progressive, it also raises questions about respect and traditional family dynamics. When both partners earn independently, some fear that respect towards parents and elders might diminish. Meanwhile, convenience governs everyday life - ordering food from restaurants rather than cooking at home becomes commonplace.

This scenario contributes to rising stress and tension within families. Mutual rights and respect are shrinking, and patience is almost nonexistent. These conditions have led to increasing rates of divorce and even suicide, pointing to a deeper societal malaise.

The Importance of Humility, Patience, and Love

Family life thrives not on pride or power but on humility and compromise. A simple life, with basic needs met - like two meals and a small home - is enough if there is mutual love and cooperation. Unfortunately, today, the desire for big houses and flashy cars often overshadows these fundamental values, leaving some feeling like servants rather than family members.

Modern homes are equipped with numerous conveniences: washing machines, mixers, water pumps, TVs, and mobile phones. Yet dissatisfaction persists. Earlier, when such facilities were absent, family work and togetherness provided entertainment and mental peace. Now, distractions like constant mobile phone use, excessive TV watching, and salon visits dominate daily life, reducing quality family interaction.

Advice for a Balanced Life

When someone complains about lack of time due to household responsibilities, it’s worth reflecting on priorities. Whether entering college or a new family through marriage, patience and endurance are key. Just as juniors become seniors in college, a daughter-in-law eventually becomes a mother-in-law. Respect for all family members, both young and old, nurtures harmony and goodwill, which often returns multiplied.

Early marriage, a tolerant attitude, and mutual respect within families can prevent many problems. One must avoid impulsive, destructive decisions and seek advice from elders and trust in a higher power. Life is full of ups and downs, but thoughtful choices and open hearts can guide us through.

Reflecting on How Far We Have Come

This changing scenario calls for deep reflection on where society is heading. The erosion of traditional values, the rise of materialism, and the breakdown of mutual respect are warning signs. It is essential to recognize these changes and consciously work toward rebuilding the fabric of relationships - where love, patience, and respect again become the foundation of family and society.

This reality may be uncomfortable, but understanding it is the first step toward meaningful change. Only by acknowledging these challenges can we hope to restore balance and happiness in our relationships and communities.
